The Hate U Give // book review

I wanted to love this book. I thought I would, I 100% thought I’d for-real love it. I think it’s heavy, it’s raw, it makes you see things you might not have seen — maybe you expected them, sensed them, but it still makes you see things more clearly. I think there are things in this book that despite reading about, hearing about, seeing on the news, reading on the internet etc — you still simply cannot understand it until you have LIVED it. And I haven’t, not this sorta stuff — we all live our own trials, but still.

My reasons for not entirely loving this book were honestly just because at times it felt painfully slow. I realize you need to know a good amount about your main character and their lives outside of the “point” of the story, but still, it was just too slow.

In the world we live in though, and because of the world we live in, I would still recommend reading this. Let it enlighten you!
